Russia, GCC countries highlight commitment to enhancing cooperation
Russia and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) have emphasized the need for collaboration to achieve peace, security, stability, and prosperity worldwide, according to a joint statement following a meeting in Moscow.
The GCC countries affirmed their position on the Russia-Ukraine conflict as aligned with established United Nations conventions. In addition, the Russian foreign minister expressed his country's support for reconciliation between the Gulf states and Iran, as well as the reintroduction of Syria to the Arab League, and called for action to address the Sudanese and Yemeni crises.
Meanwhile, Russia is interested in building up stronger economic cooperation with the GCC, with infrastructural projects as a priority. The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF) is the main promoter of GCC investment and has partnered with many GCC financial entities. These investments can bring both economic and political benefits to the GCC countries, building ties with Russia.
