Internal Strife: Armed Mutiny Unleashes Infighting Among Russia’s Elite

The recent armed mutiny led by Yevgeny Prigozhin, chief of the Wagner mercenary group, against the Russian military has caused internal strife and infighting among Russia's elite

Prigozhin accused the Russian military of launching a rocket strike on his group's field camps in Ukraine, and vowed to take revenge against those responsible. He also claimed to control 25,000 fighters and threatened to quash the "chaos" in Russia.

However, the Russian government has opened a criminal case against Prigozhin for armed mutiny and calls for civil war, and he could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
