Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy commemorated the 76th anniversary of the Nazi Germany's surrender to the Soviet Union on May 8, 1945. In a speech, he highlighted the importance of the occasion in ending World War II and acknowledged the sacrifices made by the Ukrainian people during the war.

Zelenskiy also used the opportunity to reiterate Ukraine's aspirations to become closer to Europe, saying that Ukraine was a "European nation" that had made significant progress in recent years. He expressed hope that Ukraine could join the European Union in the future and said that it was necessary to "keep moving forward" towards that goal.
