Ukraine can join NATO “when allies agree and conditions are met”
NATO has stated that Ukraine can join the alliance "when allies agree and conditions are met".
President Volodymyr Zelensky had criticised the delay to accession, but NATO has set out a clearer path to membership and recognised Ukraine's army's increasing interoperability with NATO forces.
The lack of an agreed timeframe could become a bargaining chip for Ukraine's eventual membership in NATO, according to Zelensky. Meanwhile, a coalition of 11 nations will begin training Ukrainian pilots to fly US-made F-16 fighter jets at a center set to be established in Romania. Turkey has also dropped its opposition to Sweden joining the military alliance
