“Emirati officials went out of their way to help them”

A second evaluation plane carrying 128 people from Sudan, including Emiratis and others of 16 different nationalities, landed in Abu Dhabi on Saturday. There were tears of joy as families reunited with their kids, who were trapped in the African country amid an intense civil war.

The evacuees will be offered accommodation in the Emirates until they can be safely flown back to their home countries. After reuniting with his son and daughter, Syrian father Hassani Antar Al Hussain thanked Emirati officials for going out of their way to help his kids.

Several families reaching Abu Dhabi said the situation in Sudan was gradually worsening. Widespread streetfights and looting continue to make residents' lives difficult. Meanwhile, thousands of people have already fled to neighbouring countries, including Chad and South Sudan.
