Violence in Sudan on Eid holiday despite three-day ceasefire announcements

The violence in Sudan has continued despite the announcement of a three-day ceasefire during the Eid holiday.

Fighting between forces loyal to Sudan's army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and his deputy turned rival Mohamed Hamdan Daglo has left hundreds dead and thousands injured.

Witnesses have reported intense street battles in Khartoum, with the sound of gunfire and columns of smoke rising across the capital. The conflict has damaged hospitals and strategic buildings, leaving many people without essential services or shelter.

The situation has undermined the daily lives of civilians in Khartoum and there is a growing risk of the conflict spreading to neighbouring countries.
