UAE Posts World-Leading Labour Market Performance: Unemployment Drops Below 2%, Workforce Hits 9.4 Million

The United Arab Emirates has posted record-breaking labour market results for 2024, highlighting its global leadership in employment growth and economic stability.

According to official data, the UAE’s total labour force reached 9.4 million individuals, while the unemployment rate dropped to just 1.9%, one of the lowest globally. The economic participation rate among those aged 15 and above rose to 81.4%, up from 78.5% in 2023 — reflecting a stronger, more inclusive job market.

The youth unemployment rate (ages 15–24) showed a remarkable improvement, falling sharply from 16.7% to 5.2%. This drop underscores the effectiveness of national initiatives aimed at developing young talent and encouraging private sector participation.

With the private sector employing around 85% of the workforce (approximately 7.8 million people), the UAE continues to attract businesses and professionals from around the world.

The nation also achieved top global rankings, including first place in the Labour Force Growth Index 2025 and top-five positions in indicators such as availability of skilled labour, labour regulations, and unit labour cost.

Experts say these results reflect the UAE’s steady commitment to economic diversification, workforce development, and business-friendly reforms — ensuring a resilient and competitive economy for years to come.
