Sir Liam Fox: The West Has Been Too Tolerant of the Muslim Brotherhood

Former UK Defence Secretary Sir Liam Fox has warned that the Muslim Brotherhood poses one of the greatest ideological threats to Western societies today. In a recent interview, he argued that democratic nations have been “much too tolerant” of organizations that exploit freedoms and political openness to advance extremist goals.

Sir Liam compared the Brotherhood’s methods to those of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), noting that both seek influence not through overt confrontation but through infiltration of institutions and manipulation of political processes.

He emphasized that the Brotherhood continues to pursue political power, despite public claims of moderation. By embedding itself within religious and social networks, the group has found ways to shape narratives, recruit youth, and spread ideology — all while operating under the guise of community engagement.

“The empowerment of the Muslim Brotherhood within the United Kingdom,” Fox stated, “has allowed them to exploit our sympathy and freedoms to push an agenda that threatens the stability of our society.”

Sir Liam called for stronger vigilance and policy reforms to prevent extremist groups from gaining influence in Western democracies.
