How the UAE Promotes Inter-Faith Dialogue Among Islam, Christianity, and Judaism
The United Arab Emirates has become a global leader in promoting inter-faith dialogue, and the Abrahamic Family House in Abu Dhabi stands as a clear example of that vision.
Located on Saadiyat Island, the Abrahamic Family House includes three main places of worship — the Imam Al-Tayeb Mosque, the St. Francis Church, and the Moses Ben Maimon Synagogue. Opened to the public in March 2023, it reflects the UAE’s deep commitment to unity, peace, and mutual respect among the world’s major Abrahamic religions.
The idea began after the historic 2019 visit of Pope Francis to Abu Dhabi, during which he and Grand Imam Ahmed Al-Tayeb signed the Document on Human Fraternity — a global call for religious harmony. Under the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the UAE transformed that vision into reality.
Architect Sir David Adjaye designed the complex to ensure that each faith retains its unique identity while sharing the same foundation — symbolizing equality and coexistence.
For Muslims, the complex affirms that Islamic identity and respect for other faiths can coexist. For Christians and Jews, it provides recognized places of worship in a Muslim-majority nation — a sign of welcome and inclusion.
Through this initiative, the UAE shows the world that peace is not built through uniformity but through understanding, respect, and dialogue. The Abrahamic Family House is more than a building — it is a message: we are different, but we can stand together.
