Disney’s Snow White Ends Box Office Run With Disappointing Numbers

After months of swirling controversy, lukewarm reviews, and an underwhelming theatrical performance, Disney’s Snow White has finally wrapped up its box office run—earning a modest $205.5 million worldwide. By Disney standards, that number is more than just disappointing; it’s one of the lowest returns for a live-action remake of a beloved animated classic.

With the film set to premiere tomorrow on Disney+, there’s still hope that digital audiences may show the kind of enthusiasm that theatergoers didn’t. But based on the reception so far, expectations remain cautious.

Despite featuring a high-profile cast—Rachel Zegler as Snow White and Gal Gadot as the Evil Queen—the film failed to connect with audiences both domestically and internationally. It's a surprising outcome for a property rooted in the legacy of the 1937 original, the very first full-length animated feature ever produced by Walt Disney Studios. Yet somehow, this modern reinterpretation lacked the storytelling magic and emotional resonance that have made other Disney remakes, like Beauty and the Beast or The Lion King, box office juggernauts.

In fact, the only live-action remakes that performed worse at the global box office were Pete’s Dragon (2016) and Mulan (2020), the latter of which was released during the height of pandemic-era streaming uncertainty.

Whether Snow White finds a second life on Disney+ remains to be seen. But for now, it serves as a cautionary tale: nostalgia and name recognition alone aren't always enough to guarantee box office success—especially when the audience doesn't feel the magic.
