Savannah Airport Prepares for 21,000 Arrivals Ahead of St. Patrick’s Day Festivities!

Savannah is gearing up for one of its biggest weekends of the year! With St. Patrick’s Day right around the corner, Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is preparing to welcome a massive influx of travelers — 21,000 arrivals are expected during this holiday period, making it the busiest time of the year for the airport.

Thursday, March 14, is projected to be the heaviest travel day, with over 7,000 people flying in to make the most of the long weekend and attend the city’s famous St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Thousands more will arrive in the following days to soak in the celebrations, local traditions, and lively atmosphere.

To keep up with the demand, Savannah Airport has expanded its TSA security checkpoint with six lanes — a system first introduced in 2018 — to help travelers move through screenings efficiently. Passengers are advised to arrive 2–3 hours before their flight to avoid delays and ensure a smooth journey.

Meanwhile, the City of Savannah has also made key adjustments to accommodate the surge in visitors. Officials have designated new pick-up and drop-off zones for rideshare services, effective Friday, to improve traffic flow and keep everyone safe.

After the weekend’s festivities, Tuesday, March 19, is expected to be the busiest departure day, as thousands head home. The airport’s expanded TSA lanes will be critical in managing this high volume of travelers and ensuring a hassle-free departure experience.

If you’re traveling to Savannah for St. Patrick’s Day, plan ahead, arrive early, and get ready to enjoy one of the most exciting celebrations in the country!
