Starmer Calls Trump and Zelensky After White House Clash
UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer held phone conversations with US President Donald Trump and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky following their heated exchange at the White House. Starmer’s diplomatic efforts come ahead of his European meetings aimed at promoting peace in Ukraine.
During their White House meeting, Trump and Zelensky had a public disagreement, with Trump demanding more appreciation for US aid and Zelensky stressing the need for global support. The tense discussion cut the meeting short, forcing Zelensky to leave before finalizing a key minerals deal. Speaking to Fox News later, Zelensky reaffirmed Ukraine’s need for international backing.
A Downing Street spokesperson confirmed that Starmer remains committed to supporting Ukraine. After discussions with Trump in the Oval Office, Starmer has been coordinating with other European leaders, including Emmanuel Macron, Olaf Scholz, and Donald Tusk.
As the Ukraine conflict marks three years, Zelensky is set to visit London on Saturday for a crucial meeting with world leaders, reinforcing Western unity in the ongoing crisis.
