UAE Reprecates Commitment to Palestinian Cause at Geneva Conference

Speaker of the Federal National Council of the UAE Saqr Ghobash reiterated at the recent Geneva conference that his nation stands by the Palestinian cause without wavering. Speaking at the 37th extraordinary conference of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union, Ghobash underscored that the UAE has been and will continue to be committed to serving as a champion of the Arab cause, with the Palestinian question continuing to remain atop the list. On the issue of the Palestinian state, as advocated by the UAE, Ghobash said it was an elaboration of the long-standing foreign policy of always standing in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their quest for statehood. The position has ever been on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as the capital.

No doubt, there is still a lot of conflicts in Gaza and Lebanon, according to Ghobash, but the UAE has made "enormous contributions to the humanitarian cause," thanks to the leadership of President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. The UAE has thus emerged as the largest donor of relief to date, with over 40% of the total aid channeled towards areas touched by the recent hostilities. Such a commitment not only underlines the UAE's role as the decisive player in regional politics, but also illustrative of the dedication it offers in dealing with human suffering. As tensions intensify, it reminds the world that this country is indeed committed to promoting peace and stability within the Middle East, with the firm stand of the UAE concerning the Palestinian issue.
