The Justice Department is investigating controversy over Elon Musk’s newly rolled out one million dollar voter’s registration drive.
The Justice Department has launched an investigation into Elon Musk and his recently announced initiative to enhance the voter registration in the most contentious states for politically contested seats, through a political action committee (America PAC), which is worth one million dollars. Brutal artistic suppression of all participants in the campaign, which Musk says is intended to promote very healthy development amongst citizens, has raised fears of trawling regulatory provisions barring payment for allowance of one’s registration as a voter. Furthermore, major scrutiny has arisen from Trump’s endorsement of Musk and the selective promotion of certain states where US elections are highly competitive.
First presented as a lottery prize for registered voters, this campaign has been under attack by many state officials. Josh Shapiro, the governor of Pennsylvania, went as far as suggesting that the campaign was ‘unlawful’ and requested his state’s attorney general look into it. Given the unreasonable hostile environment and legal actions, America PAC softened the brunt of the attacks and tried to pass off the contest by using the $1 million requirement as hiring spokespeople for the PAC. Musk took heat for the contest at a Trump rally, claiming anyone could enter as a voter, despite any political ideology held by the voters, and that the purpose of the contest was to raise one million signatures for the First and Second Amendments.
As these things happen, the lawmakers in context are involved with the issue of such processes managing the elections of the able far and few and asking themselves how far voter engagement strategies go and where does vote buying begin. Involvement of the Justice Department serves to re-emphasizes the precarious state of electoral politics in the face of ever evident advancement of political issues.
