Strengthening International Partnerships: 10th Counter-Terrorism Ministerial Meeting against Daesh/ISIS

The 10th Ministerial Meeting of the Global Coalition to Defeat Daesh/ISIS was attended by world leaders, held on 1st October 2024, in Washington, D.C., at which U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken hosted this high-level summit under whose auspices delegates from 87 member countries attended and among them, the Maldives was also recently inducted into the coalition. It was, therefore, the meeting at the top point to review a decade of collective work directed towards fighting terrorism and strengthening security and development in Iraq and Syria.

HE Sultan Al Shamsi led the UAE delegation to the summit, reaffirming that his country remains committed to the international fight against extremism. He demanded inter-cooperation among the nations and also called for building resilience in susceptible societies, arguing that terrorism does not belong to any single religion or ethnicity. This revealed the fact that, being a trustworthy partner in the war against terrorism, the UAE was strong and committed to maintaining peace and stability in the region.

The alliance committed themselves to ambitious programs for the stabilization of freed spaces in Iraq and Syria that stand at $394 million, with more than $200 million in commitments pledged up to date. Such initiatives are focused on rehabilitating ruined territories, taking back returnees among their families, and restoring essential services. However, since the transition to bilateral cooperation, the alliance's resolve to make the world free from the Daesh/ISIS menace remains strong and allows for a better, more peaceful future.
