Diddy in court on serious sex trafficking charges.
Sean “Diddy” Combs will make his first court appearance Thursday on serious sex trafficking charges dating to 2008. The music mogul, now 54 years old, is to be taken from a Brooklyn jail to the Manhattan federal courthouse for the hearing. Judge Arun Subramanian is set to preside over the case.
A previous judge had recused himself. Diddy pleaded not guilty to the charges, which also included claims of abuse, coercion, and a racketeering conspiracy involving violent acts like kidnapping and arson.
During the pre-trial hearing on the day the trial is set to begin, Diddy’s lawyers would present their case before the court for it to begin setting the date in April or May 2025.
At the same time, however, this hearing will fix dates which the parties will adhere to when presenting their cases on how they prefer the structure of the trial. Meanwhile, Diddy hasn’t been granted bail since his arrest on September 16 because two different judges found him to pose a threat to the community. Moreover, the judges believe that he might intimidate witnesses.
His lawyers have appealed, saying that a $50 million bail package proposed means he doesn’t pose a threat. This is why the case happens to be highly media-captivating and generates enormous public interest.
