Columbia has introduced the "MyColaSC" app for residents reporting local issues

The City of Columbia introduces “MyColaSC”, a new mobile app in which it is hoping will make the reporting of potholes, downed trees, and dark streetlights easier for residents. On this user-friendly app, with ease, one can locate the problem area with the map feature, upload pictures, and submit complaints using their smartphone or computer. Residents can also monitor the status of the report in real time, thereby improving the communication between the city and residents.

The benefits, he says, are multifold: in large part, it adds transparency to the reporting process. Residents used to have to call city offices and then follow up on those issues. Now, users can check on the status of their work orders to know exactly what’s being done. In fact, it makes everything very efficient.

Beyond just reporting issues, the “MyColaSC” app allows residents to manage parking citations, licensing fees, and garbage collection schedules. Available for both Android and Apple devices, the city has taken further steps of posting a tutorial video on YouTube to better explain how to use the app. Rickenmann said, “We’re embracing technology, and it’s making a big difference,” about the impact of the new tool on keeping the community more engaged.
