Canada Limits International Student Visas

The government announced a sharp reduction in the number of international student permits to be issued across the country, something that drew a lot of debate from learning institutions and those hoping to opt for studies in this country. The move follows an attempt by the government to downsize immigration levels and use the resources effectively.

In the recent past, international students have thronged Canadian education institutions, which has placed increased pressures on housing, healthcare, and educational facilities. Through this proposal of issuing fewer permits, the government seeks to mitigate pressure on these facilities while ensuring both domestic and international students have quality experience.

This would make less and fewer aspiring students come to Canada in the future, and it could taint the position of the country as the world's leading home of education. Yet, when implemented, the government must watch closely the effect of such changes on the educational arena and the macro-economy.
