15 ISIS Fighters Killed in a US-Led Raid in Iraq



A recent raid by U.S. military forces in western Iraq has resulted in that at least 15 Islamic State fighters are dead, said a U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) release on Sept. 12. The group fought back using some grenades and explosive belts. This operation, carried out on Thursday in cooperation with Iraqi security forces, was aimed at disrupting the group’s leadership and their ability to plan attacks. CENTCOM confirmed there had been no civilian casualties during the raid.

A US defense official said that seven American soldiers were injured in the action, but would not disclose their condition. Following this raid there were an aftermath attack in Germany when a Syrian refugee supported by ISIS killed 3 people and injured 8 others. Currently, about 2,500 US troops are stationed in Iraq, along with 900 in Syria, mostly to provide support and prevent ISIS from becoming powerful again. Discussions on withdrawal of the US military from Iraq are expected to continue until after the U.S. presidential elections in November.
