O.J. Simpson: Triumph and Turmoil

Orenthal James Simpson was born on July 9, 1947, to a single mother, Eunice, in San Francisco, California, and raised in the projects. Simpson also faced Clampdown heavy Early-on: he suffered from rickets as a child and had to wear braces on his legs. From his early days, he showed will and athletic talent. He became good at football in his high school days and won a scholarship to USC, where he became their tailback.

Simpson became the recipient of the Heisman Trophy in 1968 at the end of his USC career and literally was considered by many to be the greatest college football player of all time. Success at USC sent him on to a professional career with the NFL's Buffalo Bills. Simpson went on further to shatter more records, including the first player to rush for more than 2,000 yards in a single season in 1973; this remained in place for years. He was elected into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1985 for such greatest successes on the field.
