Russia Denies Forcibly Moving Ukrainian Children: UN Committee Review

Russia faced scrutiny at the United Nations as it denied forcibly relocating Ukrainian children since the February 2022 invasion.

The UN Committee on the Rights of the Child questioned Moscow on the number of children affected, while Kyiv claims 20,000 have been moved. Russia's deputy minister of labor and social protection, Alexey Vovchenko, stated that since February 2022, Russia has not deported Ukrainian citizens to its territory.

The situation involves ongoing checks on over 5,000 children.

The ICC has issued a warrant against President Putin on war crime accusations related to deporting Ukrainian children. Kyiv reports only about 400 were repatriated out of those moved by Russia. Vovchenko mentioned relocating residents from Donetsk and Lugansk to Russia, emphasizing Ukrainian authorities' lack of prior concern.

Questions remain on the fate of Russian children who lost their fathers in the Ukraine conflict.
