The United Arab Emirates began a lively celebration known as the Spirit of the Union on Saturday, celebrating the merger of the seven emirates on December 2, 1971. This day is more than just a public holiday; it is a monument to Emirati patriotism, solidarity, and the rich fabric of their different heritages.

The UAE emerged as a forward-thinking and successful nation under the visionary leadership of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan. Today, on its 52nd Union Day, the festivities are diversified, representing the country’s rich cultural legacy as well as its modern vision.

President Mohamed Bin Zayed wished the UAE citizens, “On Union Day, we renew our determination, holding on to our roots as we raise our flag with ever-higher ambitions.”

Colorful Festivals Across the UAE
The brilliant colors of the national flag — red, white, black, and green — cover the streets, residences, and cars. This visual spectacle sets the tone for a joyous mood that pervades the entire country. Residents are enjoying the first of three paid holidays by participating in a variety of events and activities. The government has offered an additional celebration package for residents — In addition to attractive discounts, fireworks displays, and freebies scheduled for the national holiday, authorities have also promised free parking in three emirates. Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah are the three emirates.

COP28 and National Day Unite culminate in Expo City Dubai.
While the world’s attention is focused on Dubai for the United Nations Climate Change Conference, COP28, the formal celebrating event is set to dazzle at Expo City Dubai, the COP28 venue. The celebrations begin with bustling carnivals flowing down waterfronts, complete with colorful floats and sand sculptures. The day culminates with spectacular pyrotechnics that illuminate the night sky across the Emirates.
