Fury Over Rishi Sunak Not Acting Decisively Against Suella Braverman
The UK’s prime minister, Rishi Sunak, is embroiled in a civil war within the ruling Conservative party over the future of Home Secretary Suella Braverman. On Saturday, he postponed her removal from her position after she claimed that police were biased for permitting a pro-Palestinian march.
Armistice Day, which is commemorated globally on November 11 every year to mark the conclusion of World War I, is expected to witness one of the largest-ever days of public protest in Britain in 2023. The pro-Palestine march organizers anticipate “hundreds of thousands” of participants.
More than fifty Tory MPs, according to Braverman’s allies, fought to support her in her efforts to remain in office. Some of the MPs accused chief whip Simon Hart of masterminding a scheme to remove her. However, moderate Tory MPs are pushing for her dismissal from No 10 and the chief whip.
Sunak is thinking about the home secretary’s future after she sent the contentious article to the Times without following Downing Street’s requests for revisions. Seeking to quell the commotion, Braverman released a statement on Friday endorsing the police.
