Will Australia Voters Say ‘Yes’ To The Indigenous Voice?

Australians are voting in a landmark referendum to decide whether to recognize Indigenous people in its constitution. If this wil be approved, it will mark the country’s first constitutional change in 46 years.

The so-called “The Voice” referendum proposed the creation of an Indigenous board that would advise the federal government on matters affecting indigenous communities.

Though not everybody agrees. Politicians and other individuals claim that this will only slow down the government and not actually resolve the problems. Additionally, some Indigenous people think that this Voice is really a diversion that won’t ultimately accomplish much.

This is a chance for Australians to choose the kind of nation they wish to live in. It might be the first step in mending previous wounds. But there is no simple solution. The “Yes” or “No” response shows deeper problems that won’t go right away.
