China’s new map includes Aksai Chin, Arunachal Pradesh

 

The People's Republic of China unveiled the 2023 version of its "standard map" on Monday, which included Taiwan, the disputed South China Sea, Arunachal Pradesh, and the Aksai Chin region.

Arunachal Pradesh, according to India, has "always been" and "will always be" a crucial component of the country. However, China claims Arunachal Pradesh as its own territory. China also calls it South Tibet. 

Global Times said in a post on X, Twitter, "The 2023 edition of China's standard map was officially released on Monday and launched on the website of the standard map service hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources.”

The map reportedly showed Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin, a region divided between India and China, as part of China. The map also showed Taiwan and a large part of the South China Sea as part of China.

According to China, Taiwan is a part of China and merger with the mainland is one of President Xi Jinping's stated goals. Vietnam, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and Taiwan have also claimed some parts of the South China Sea.

Recently, China's President Xi Jinping and India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi agreed to resolve border issues. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi exchanged words with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of last week’s BRICS summit. The Chinese president told the Prime Minister of India that the two countries should “properly handle the border issue.” Wang Wenbin, the spokesperson of China’s Foreign Ministry, also confirmed that the meeting between the two leaders occurred during the BRICS summit. 

The relations between India and China were affected when the Indian and Chinese armies clashed at the Galwan Valley, disputed Aksai Chin area.

Recently, Chinese automaker BYD informed its Indian joint venture partner that it would scrap plans for a fresh $1 billion investment to build electric automobiles after receiving backlash from New Delhi over its proposal.

Recently, the Wall Street Journal announced that Shein would be returning to India through a partnership with Reliance Retail. According to Bloomberg, the Indian company and the Chinese fast fashion giant entered into a licensing agreement to allow the return of Shein to India.
