Amazon deforestation drops under Lula, reversing trend during Bolsonaro reign

Deforestation in the Brazilian Amazon decreased during the term of President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, reversing the trend that was observed under President Jair Bolsonaro.

Lula has been credited with promising to crack down on illegal mining and control forest loss, while Bolsonaro's policies were seen as weakening conservation efforts and Indigenous land rights.

However, it is important to note that the long-term impact and sustainability of this decrease in deforestation under Lula's term are still uncertain and may depend on factors such as funding and staff cuts.
