Indonesia: Criticism over government plans to hire foreign supervisors for new capital Nusantara

The Indonesian government has faced criticism over its plan to hire foreign supervisors for the construction of its new planned capital, Nusantara.

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investments, Luhut Pandjaitan, defended the move, stating that foreign workers are needed to ensure that the capital is ready by August 2024. However, members of his own party have criticized the decision, and some analysts have raised concerns over the high costs of the new capital.

The government's plan to hire foreign supervisors has drawn attention, as it attempts to speed up the construction process of the new capital. Meanwhile, Luhut has explained that the government has decided to employ foreign workers due to a lack of local talent in the construction sector.
