Checking Taliban leader’s claims of Afghan women provided with a ‘comfortable and prosperous life’
Taliban leader Hibatullah Akhundzada claimed in his Eid message that the Taliban has taken steps to protect women's rights and provide them with a comfortable life under Islamic Shariah law. However, since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan in August 2021, they have imposed strict measures on women's public life and education, including banning girls' education after sixth grade and barring Afghan women from public life and work.
The rules have triggered international condemnation and worsened the country's humanitarian crisis. Despite Akhundzada's claims, the situation for women in Afghanistan remains uncertain and precarious.
