Barbara Hulanicki’s Style: ‘I Made This Jacket for Twiggy, Which Is Why It’s So Tiny’

 

Barbara Hulanicki is a fashion designer and illustrator best known for co-founding the British fashion store Biba in the 1960s. She is recognized for her unique style that blends retro and contemporary elements, creating a timeless aesthetic.

One of Hulanicki's most famous designs is the "Twiggy" jacket, which she made for the famous model and fashion icon Twiggy. The jacket was designed to be extremely fitted and was made using a stretchy fabric to accentuate Twiggy's slim figure.

In an interview with The Guardian, Hulanicki spoke about the jacket, saying, "I made this jacket for Twiggy, which is why it's so tiny. I made it out of an old pair of stretchy pants I found in a charity shop. I just cut them up and made the jacket."

Hulanicki's style is often described as "mod" and reflects the fashion trends of the 1960s and 1970s. She is known for her use of bold prints, bright colors, and playful silhouettes, and her designs have been worn by celebrities such as Mick Jagger, Marianne Faithfull, and Cher.
