Mohammed Rashid’s Initiative ‘1 Billion Meals Endowment’ to provide sustainable food aid
His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Vice President, Prime Minister, and the Minister Of Defence of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has launched the “1 Billion Meals Endowment” initiative, with the aim of providing sustainable food aid to hundreds of millions of people across the world.
The initiative is aimed at establishing a food endowment fund that would mobilize local, regional and international efforts to eradicate hunger and achieve food security globally. The campaign is a reflection of the UAE’s deeply embedded moral values to help people in need across the world, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
The campaign is implemented under the umbrella of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), the largest regional foundation in terms of the number of institutional initiatives, which has launched various initiatives to help underprivileged people across the world.
The “1 Billion Meals Endowment” campaign is an expansion of the UAE’s previous Ramadan campaigns “1 Billion Meals”, “100 Million Meals” and “10 Million Meals”, and would help the victims of conflicts, natural disasters, and crises around the world. Assistance would directly be transferred to needy people globally.
The UAE Prime Minister noted that as Muslims, it is their duty to help people in need, and even a small but sustainable contribution can make a bigger difference than a one-time large contribution. The campaign aims to achieve sustainable food aid by establishing a food endowment fund, which would help to implement sustainable programs globally to eradicate hunger and achieve food security.
